Crypto Cards Research Report

Crypto debit cards let you spend digital assets at any merchant that accepts Visa or Mastercard, converting your crypto to fiat at the point of sale. The options vary significantly in cashback rates, supported assets, staking requirements, geographic availability, and fee structures. Here is an honest breakdown of the main options.

Crypto.com Visa Card

The Crypto.com Visa Card is one of the most widely used crypto debit cards globally. Users lock CRO tokens for 12 months under the Level Up program to unlock higher card tiers with better rewards. Higher tiers offer up to 8% cashback paid in CRO, along with Spotify, Netflix, and airport lounge reimbursements. There are no annual or monthly card fees, and the card integrates with Crypto.com's broader trading and staking ecosystem. Available in the US. Key risks include CRO price volatility affecting the value of staked capital and earned rewards, foreign exchange fees up to 3% outside the card's primary region, centralized custody, and a history of reward reductions during bear markets. Best for committed Crypto.com users who hold CRO long-term.

Trustee Card

The Trustee Card is powered by Binance Pay and operates with a non-custodial wallet architecture, giving users more control over funds than exchange-issued cards. Supports BTC, ETH, BNB, USDT, TRX, and other assets. Includes EUR IBAN and SEPA banking and offers both virtual and physical Visa cards. No mandatory KYC for basic use. Not available in the US. Best for DeFi traders, freelancers paid in crypto, and digital nomads outside the US who need fast, flexible spending with minimal friction.

KAST Card

KAST is a stablecoin-powered Visa card offering up to 15% cashback in KAST Reward Points, among the highest rates in the space. Supports USDC and USDT only. Zero conversion fees from crypto to fiat at point of sale. Compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Available virtual, physical, and metal card tiers. Downsides include limited asset support beyond stablecoins, forex fees up to 5%, and delayed conversion of reward points into redeemable tokens. Available in the US. Best for stablecoin-heavy users who prioritize reward rates and can absorb the forex fees on international purchases.

Coinbase Card

The Coinbase Card is a Visa debit card that spends directly from a Coinbase balance, supporting 20+ cryptocurrencies with real-time conversion at checkout. Up to 4% cashback on purchases, no annual fees, and tight integration with the Coinbase app. The simplest option for beginners already using Coinbase. Available in the US except Hawaii. Limitations include a 2.49% conversion fee on some transactions and narrower cashback rates than KAST or Crypto.com for high-tier users.

What to consider when choosing

The right card depends on what you hold, where you spend, and whether you want to commit capital through staking requirements. If you hold primarily stablecoins and want maximum cashback, KAST is the strongest option. If you are already deeply invested in the Crypto.com ecosystem, their card offers the best integrated experience. If you want a simple beginner-friendly option with no staking requirements, the Coinbase Card works well. For non-US users who want non-custodial control with Binance Pay convenience, Trustee stands out.

All crypto debit cards share a common limitation worth understanding: spending crypto is a taxable event in most jurisdictions. Each purchase triggers a capital gain or loss calculation based on the difference between your cost basis and the conversion value at the time of the transaction. This creates reporting obligations that add complexity to everyday spending. Factor this into your decision, particularly if you are in a high-frequency spending use case.
